Studies and Curriculum

The course of studies will extend from kindergarten to Std XII and is oriented towards the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC).

The medium of instruction is English. A high standard of English is necessary for success in the ICSE/ISC. However, Hindi and Oriya have a vital role in the curriculum and are taught daily in all standards. The intellectual formation in Loyola is liberal and universal yet rooted in Indian tradition as per suggestions made by the Indian Education Commissions.

The Curriculum, therefore, embraces religious instruction (for Christians) and Value Education, English Literature, History, Geography, Civics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, Computer Science, Socially Useful Productive Work (such as class cleaning) and Environmental Studies (EVS). No language other than English is allowed within the campus.

Regular attendance, alertness in class, performance of regular class work and revision are sufficient to make progress. Parents can make the class teaching even more valuable if they speak English to their wards at home. English is the medium of instruction.

Private tuition for our school children is Not Encouraged.


Assesments / Evaluations

  • In Loyola, we follow the ‘Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation’ (CCE) system.
  • The Cumulative Assessment in CCE consists of:
    • LKG & UKG
    • There are TWO terms of 100 marks each and details of each term are given below.
      First Assessment
      Internal Evaluation – 40 Marks
      Half Yearly Evaluation – 60 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

      Second Assessment
      Internal Evaluation – 40 Marks
      Final Evaluation – 60 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

    • CLASSES 1 – 5:
    • There are TWO terms of 100 marks each and details of each term are given below.
      First Assessment
      Project(Individual) – 10 Marks
      Class Work / Home Work – 10 Marks
      Orals – 10 Marks
      Spelling/Dictation _ 10 Marks
      Half Yearly Evaluation – 60 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

      Second Assessment
      Project(Individual) – 10 Marks
      Class Work / Home Work – 10 Marks
      Orals – 10 Marks

    • CLASSES 6 – 9 & 11:

      Project/Orals/Practical – 10 Marks
      Half Yearly Evaluation – 80 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

      Project/Orals/Practical – 10 Marks
      Final Evaluation – 80 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

    • CLASSES 10 & 12:
    • There are TWO terms of 100 marks each and details of each term are given below.
      First Assessment

      Half Yearly Evaluation – 80 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

      Second Assessment
      Project _ 20 Marks
      Final Evaluation – 80 Marks
      TOTAL – 100 Marks

      Note : Maintenanance of the copies and the class & home assignments should be taken seriously as
      these are evaluated.

    • The minimum pass marks are 35% (grade —E) for all subjects.
    • Promotion is granted based on the grades/marks of this cumulative ‘Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation’, and not on the final assesment/evaluation alone.
    • However a minimum over-all average of 35% (grade — E) and passing in the following subjects is a must to qualify for promotion:
    • a. English (average of Language +Literature)
      b. Second Language
      c. Maths
      d. Science (average of Physics + Chemistry + Biology where applicable)
      e. A minimum of 75% Attendance is essential for promotion

      No student is allowed to skip internal assessment that is conducted from time to time with or without prior notice. Students who have missed any such evaluation will not be given a make-up evaluation. Failure to answer an evaluation/project brings down the average.
      Students representing the school by participating in any State / District/National/International level competitions and have missed any evaluation as a result ,will be exempted from taking the test.Their average will be taken from the exams answered,i.e the total marks of the exam missed will not be included in the grand total.

    The practice of bringing your child just for the period of the Evaluation and then seeking permission to take him/her home immediately on the condition that the child is not well will no longer be acceptable. If the child is not well, please keep him/her at home.

    B+ 80-89 Distinction

    D 50-59 Satisfactory
    E 35-49 Pass
    F 34 & below Failure

    Promotion is granted on the average of all the grades/marks in the year and not only on the final assessments/evaluation.

    With regard to promotion or failure, the Principal’s decision is final and conclusive. Answer scripts of final evaluation will not be shown.
